Trek to KHULIYA TOP  
Munsiyari's name refers to a 'Place With Snow'. Situated on the banks of Goriganga river, it is a fast growing tourist destination, and mountaineers, glacier enthusiasts, high altitude trekkers and nature lovers commonly use it as their hub or base camp. Munsiyari also falls on the ancient salt route from Tibet and is at the entrance of the Johar Valley, which extends along the path of the Goriganga River to its source at the Milam Glacier. The town is surrounded by snow capped peaks, with a key attraction being the trekking route to Khuliya Top. Munsiyari, the center as well as the Gateway of Johar Region is situated 128 Km from Pithoragarh at an elevation of 2298 meters and is snuggled in the folds of snow clad mountains.

History of Munsiyari :- It is said that the Pandavas had set out for their final journey to heaven from Munsiyari. The people led semi-nomadic lives actively engaged in trade with Tibet across the difficult Himalayan passes. It took them 20-25 days to reach Munsiyari from Tibet from where they carried back mainly salt. Salt consumed in the entire Himalayan region came from Tibet early days. It is inhabited mainly by the Shauka people (referred to as Bhotiya by the non-Shaukas), who are its original natives. The Shauka people are the main inhabitants of this place. People in Munsiyari worship Goddess Nanda Devi.

Flora and Fauna of Munsiyari :- Flors includes pine, oaks, deodar, cypress, spruce, morcilla, rhododendrons, some rare herbs etc. While the fauna includes panthers, leopards, musk deer, mountain bears, whistling thrush, wagtails, finches, Cuckoo, colourful Cuckoo, hawk, wild hens, Lammergier, teetar pheasants, monal, eagle, falcon etc.

Approach to Munsiyari :- Munsiyari is located at a distance of 650 Kms from Delhi and 260 kms from Kathgodam Railway station. We will be using local Mahindra Maxx Jeep as taxis from Kathgodam for Munsiyari. Nainital is 35kms from Kathgodam and 290 Kms from Munsiyari and one can relax and enjoy last night there after completing the trek. Roads conditions are excellent and one will thoroughly enjoy the scenic dense pine forest, views of the snow clad mountains and refreshing waterfalls throughout the journey.

Summer Season in Munsiyari :- Munsiyari - Hill station has a pleasant climate for many months of the year. Summers are comfortable for the most part. The best time to visit the place is from March – June and September and October. During the months from March to June. The maximum temperature that you can expect during the summer is around 20 °C to 27 °C. Nights will be chilly around 5°C - 10°C

HEAT 2012 Day 01: Pre Trek : DRIVE TO MUNSIYARI (2300M)
» Arrive Kathgodam at 5:10a.m. by Ranikhet Express Train.
» Board Mahindra Maxx Jeeps and drive towards Munsiyari
» Breakfast enroute near Bhimtal
» Lunch at Dholchina around 1:00p.m.
» Arrive Munsiyari in the evening by appx. 5:30p.m.
» Check into camp site. Evening at leisure
» Dinner followed by bonfire and songs/ group entertainment

Day 02: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY IN MUNSIYARI. (MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Day 03: ACTUAL TREK PROGRAM: TREK TO CAMP 1 AT BALATI FARMS (2800M) 7KMS/ 3-4HRS
» Post breakfast, departure for trek to Camp I
» Arrive around lunch time
» Rasna/ Lemonade on arrival to be served
» Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis
» Adventure Activity - Tyrolean Traverse
» Soup time followed by dinner and campfire
» Overnight in tents (Group Sharing basis)
(MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Day 04: TREK TO CAMP 2 AT KHULIYA BUGYALS (3400M) 6KMS/ 3HRS
» Post breakfast, departure for trek to Camp I
» Arrive around lunch time
» Rasna/ Lemonade on arrival to be served
» Post lunch, welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis
» Adventure Activity - Exploring the Bugyals
» Soup time followed by dinner and campfire
» Overnight in tents (Group Sharing basis)
(MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Day 05: CLIMB TO KHULIYA TOP (3750M) 6KMS/ 4-5HRS
» Post breakfast, Height gain day to Khuliya Top subject to weather conditions
» Return back to the camp around lunch time
» Evening at leisure
» Soup time followed by dinner and campfire
» Overnight in tents (Group Sharing basis)

Day 06: TREK TO CAMP 1 AT BALATI FARMS (2800M) 6KMS/ 3-4HRS
» Post breakfast, departure for trek to Camp I
» Arrive around lunch time
» Welcome address by the camp leader and allotment of tents on sharing basis
» Adventure Activity - Rappelling
» Soup time followed by dinner and campfire
» Overnight in tents (Group Sharing basis)
(MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Day 07: TREK DOWN TO THE BASE CAMP (2300M) 7KMS/ 3-4HRS
» Post breakfast, departure for trek to Camp I
» Arrive around lunch time
» Evening at leisure to visit the town
» Soup time followed by dinner and campfire
» Overnight in tents (Group Sharing basis)

Day 08: DRIVE TO KATHGODAM
» Post Breakfast, drive to Kathgodam in Mahindra Maxx Jeeps around 7:00a.m.
» Lunch at Dholchina around 1:30 p.m.
» Dinner around 7:30p.m.near Kathgodam
» Transfer to the railway station to board the overnight train to Delhi at 9:00p.m.
